English Intonation: think about it…

• Why do some English learners sound natural, even with English grammar mistakes?
• Why do some speak English clearly, but still sound like a robot?
• Why do native English speakers understand each other even when they mumble?

The answer is English INTONATION.

Intonation is the most advanced English-speaking skill.  Although this skill is not

effectively taught, it is the most important problem for fluent speaking.

You may have advanced grammar and pronunciation skills, but native speakers may not understand you without intonation. 

Without intonation, your English may sound flat and robotic, even if your English grammar and pronunciation are perfect.  English intonation results in a natural flow, since it has an English rhythm and better communication.

But here’s the catch:

Advanced English intonation starts with good English pronunciation.  Many English scholars say effective English intonation cannot be taught because native speakers develop it naturally.  Some elements of English intonation are sometimes taught, such as strong form / weak form, connected speech, and pitch.  Though I disagree with many scholars, other important elements of English intonation can also be taught, but are more complicated to teach.

 So, if English communication is important to you, knowing English intonation is essential. Even if your grammar and pronunciation are perfect, without English intonation, your English will not sound natural. However, it is possible to speak fluent English like a native English speaker, but it requires English intonation.

1. Provides more effective English communication in real-life situations        
2. Provides shortcuts to make English speaking easier
3. Provides natural English speaking skills for English speaking fluency                         
4. Provides better understanding and improves listening ability                                                         

Ask yourself:

Do you want to improve your English speaking?
Do you want to communicate effectively like a native English speaker?
Do you want success as a fluent English speaker?
If yes, time to learn advanced English intonation.
